PARENTS & TEACHERS

Your student(s) may be anticipating or have recently completed our canine safety program!

Below you will find more information or what they have or are going to learn with Wagging with Wisdom!

THE JUNIOR CANINE ADVOCATE PLEDGE

Education FIRST

The Wag Whisperers: Junior Canine Advocate Program is an engaging yet primarily educational experience that teaches children how to safely and respectfully interact with dogs after a thorough safety presentation.

Dogs are incredible.

Many of us own them ourselves or have people in our lives that do.

But as incredible as I and you may know them to be, but there are still over 400,000 dogs bite reports on children under 12, every year due to lack of adult education & supervision.

Students Learn

Through live dog demonstrations, interactive activities, and age-appropriate safety lessons to;

  • recognize dog body language
  • practice safe interactions
  • respect boundaries

as well as grow their

  • empathy
  • communication
  • and advocacy skills

benefiting both animals and people alike. At the conclusion of every presentation, students have the opportunity to turn what they have learned into a personal commitment with the pledge.

Kids & Dogs

 Children encounter dogs in many parts of their daily lives, whether at home, in their neighborhoods, at parks, or while visiting friends and family. Whether you and your family personally own a dog or not, your children are incredibly likely to encounter dogs in the world, eventually.

It is my job to provide them with the skills to navigate the world we share with companion animals, safely.

What to Expect

Please reach us at waggingwithwisdom@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Upon arrival, my demo dogs and I settle into our space and a 8-10 minute slideshow covering the "Responsibilities of a Canine Advocate" starts off our presentation, including;

  • How to "Speak Dog" - by learning to read dog body language accurately through both photo and live demonstrations
  • Safe Interactions with Animals - by learning the P.A.W.S. Protocol
  • Practicing Patience - when attempting to make any kind of new friend (especially those who cannot speak for themselves)
  • Respecting Boundaries - and how lack of boundary awareness can have incredibly negative results
  • Kindness & Responsibility - focusing on how companion animals like dogs are a privilege for us to have. In order to continue loving them for years to come, we must own and care for them responsibly to sufficiently pay-back that kindness.

By signing the pledge at the end of every presentation, your student promises to practice kindness, patience, safety, and respect when interacting with dogs. This pledge helps reinforce important lessons about empathy, responsibility, and advocacy, making it more likely that your student will remember and apply these skills at home, school, and throughout their communities with all humans & creatures.

***Find the Wag Whisperer Pledge at the bottom of this page***

For each presentation, I will bring up to 2 of my "demo dogs" to accompany me in demonstrating how to apply what they learned at the conclusion. Some of these dogs are trained for different tasks and can provide both typical therapy style comforts as well as an array of trick or "working" demonstrations. Each student will have the choice whether to interact or not.

Interaction is NEVER mandatory.

I teach students that similar to the animals we wish to interact with, we always want the choice to do so or not. They should always listen to their own bodies, owner boundaries, and adult rules above all else, before engaging with any animal.

THE WAG WHISPERER PLEDGE

By signing this pledge at the end of the presentation,

your student promises to practice kindness, patience, safety, and respect when interacting with dogs. This pledge helps reinforce important lessons about empathy, responsibility, and advocacy, making it more likely that your student will remember and apply these skills at home, school, and throughout their communities with all humans & creatures.
