After over 15 years of animal rescue, hundreds of foster dogs, transport trips, vet visits, training lessons, meet & greets, and final adoptions, my mother (Lora) and I found there was still a growing need for ethical dog rescues to help be the change.
I have been working with rescue organizations and homeless dogs since I was still in single digits. After beginning my journey as an independent dog trainer, my mom and I decided it was also time to start making our own dent in the pet overpopulation crisis. In early 2023, Chasing Sunshine Dog Rescue based in Griswold, CT, was born.
We pride ourselves on 3 main things;
Although every homeless dog deserves care and a loving home, unfortunately even many rescues tend to overlook the animals in true need. Dogs in need of expensive veterinary care, special conditions, and medications, tend to be left behind due to their extensive financial and care needs despite their ability to live like any other pet once rehabilitated.
We seek to help as many animals in dire need of rescue and medical attention as we can at any given time.
No animal should be left behind or considered "too far gone"
Our goal as an animal rescue is to stop the cycle of traditionally undesired, dumped, abused, and mistreated dogs. The only ethical way to do so is to ensure these dogs cannot procreate by spaying and neutering every single one of the animals in our care before official adoption.
Aside from spaying or neutering, all of CSDR's animals are fully up to date on all medical needs both mandatory and ideal. We pride ourselves in adopting out healthy pets with full transparency on what they have experienced medically both as we found them and during their time with us.
We are incredibly thorough about our applications when it comes to commitment and connection. We do not ever judge based on size of home, fenced in yards, or lifestyles rather if the dog you are in pursuit of matches with your family's dynamic. A dog who truly connects with a family and home is there to stay forever.
In over a two and a half years of adoptions, Chasing Sunshine Dog Rescue has NEVER had an adopted dog returned due to our strategic companion match-making process.

Similar to adoption, foster homes go through an application process. This ensures your home and family are prepared to welcome a new temporary member!
If you are interested in fostering animals, the first step is finding a rescue you feel comfortable supporting and volunteering for. Search your surrounding area for rescues who house the animal type you are most open to fostering and apply to become a foster home. This can usually be found on their main website or facebook pages.

The answer to this question is a bit more abstract, for animals to be moved from their foster they must find their forever home. Some foster animals remain in their foster homes for periods as short as a week, where as others can remain for months. Much of this has to do with how much exposure and marketing the specific animal is getting.
If no one knows they are up for adoption how will they find a home?!

In most situations, the rescue will provide medical, food, and supplies for their rescue dogs. This may however mean that you could be asked to bring them to a specific vet or use specific equipment/food provided. Always ask questions about what will be given for support throughout your fostering journey.

Being an animal lover, it will always tug on your heart strings just a bit. But after over a decade of fostering, I have learned to keep in mind a simple fact:
Every time you help a foster animal find their forever, another is waiting patiently for their turn.
